However, the country’s tax policy is also an incentive for international investors, as taxes in Andorra are among the lowest in the world.

Types of residency in Andorra:

1. Residence and self-employment:

In order to obtain a residence permit as a self-employed person you must have a stake of more than 34% in an Andorran company. Professionals who want to carry out their activity in Andorra can also apply for this permit.

Other conditions to obtain this permit and work as a self-employed person are:

Staying in Andorra for at least 183 days a year, paying contributions to the Andorran Social Security as a self-employed person and depositing €50,000 with the Andorran Financial Authority (which will be returned when leaving the country).

Requirements for the residence permit and self-employed work permit:

  • To qualify for a residence permit as a self-employed person you must have a stake of more than 34% in an Andorran company and hold a position in its governing body.
  • You can also apply for the permit if you are a freelance professional interested in carrying out your activity in Andorra.
  • You also need to stay in Andorra for a minimum of 183 days a year to ensure the permit remains in force.
  • You must also contribute to the Andorran Social Security as a self-employed person in order to guarantee your social and labour rights.
  • Finally, you must make a deposit of €50,000 with the Andorran Financial Authority, which will be returned upon the end of your residence in the country.

Those who wish to live in Andorra without engaging in any economic activity may apply for non-profit residency (also known as passive residency).

To obtain this form of residency, the following requirements must be met:

  • The individual must not engage in any economic activity during their stay in Andorra.
  • A minimum of 600,000 euros must be invested in: a) Real estate located within the Principality of Andorra. b) Shares in the share capital or equity of companies resident in the Principality of Andorra. c) Debt or financial instruments issued by entities resident in the Principality of Andorra. d) Debt instruments issued by any public administration of the Principality of Andorra. e) Life insurance products contracted with entities resident in the Principality of Andorra. f) Deposits in the Andorran Financial Authority.
  • A deposit of 47,500 euros in the Andorran Financial Authority is required, which will be returned when the person ceases to reside in the country. In addition, for each dependent under the care of the holder who acquires the status of non-profit resident, an additional 9,500 euros must be deposited.

The application for residency for reasons of scientific, cultural and sporting interest is open to any foreign natural person who is internationally recognized for their talent in science, culture or sport.

Requirements:

  • Staying in Andorra for a minimum of 90 days per year.
  • Purchasing or renting a property in Andorra.
  • Carrying out at least 85% of their services outside Andorra.
  • Demonstrating international recognition for their talent in science, culture or sports.
  • Having sufficient financial means to support themselves and their dependents in Andorra.
  • Making a deposit of €47,500 with the Andorran Financial Authority (to be returned when they cease to reside in Andorra). In addition, for each dependent under their care, the holder must deposit an additional 9,500 euros.

Professionals who establish their headquarters or base of activity in Andorra, and who provide at least 85% of their services outside the country, can apply for residency for professionals with international projection.

Requirements:

  • They must stay Andorra for a minimum of 90 days per year.
  • At least 85% of the services must be rendered outside Andorra.
  • Purchasing or renting a property in Andorra.
  • Hiring a maximum of one employee
  • Demonstrating the economic viability of the activity they will be carrying out in Andorra.
  • Having sufficient financial means to support themselves (the holder) and their dependents in Andorra.
  • Making a deposit of €47,500 with the Andorran Financial Authority, which will be returned when they cease to reside in the country. In addition, for each dependent under their care, the holder must deposit an additional 9,500 euros

Residency for admission to a medical or geriatric care centre authorizes residency in Andorra in the event of admission to a private medical or geriatric care centre for at least 90 days per calendar year.

Requirements:

  • Staying in Andorra for a minimum of 90 days per year.
  • Not engaging in any work or professional activity.
  • Having sufficient financial means to support oneself.
